Summer means vacations. And vacations mean the beach and the beach means you need new swimwear. With many styles in various colours going around, it isn’t easy to decide what you want. You’ll probably spend a lot of time looking at swimwear online. After all, you can’t just buy a whole bunch of bathing suits you like and expect to wear them all during the summer. Unless you’re going swimming the whole time, that is.

Do you want something cute or something sexy? Maybe a one-piece, or should you try a bikini? Should you choose a floral print or plain? Should you try a style you’ve never worn before? That’s just a bit of what runs in the mind when shopping around. Summer comes only once a year, so whatever swimsuit you decide on should be capable of giving you an enjoyable beach experience.

Think About These

Fitting

Ensure that what you buy is not too loose and not too tight. Water can drag loose garments around, and you risk the chance of them slipping off. They bunch up and look unflattering too. And when swimwear is too tight, it’s uncomfortable to breathe and move around in. Your more delicate areas could also get pinched.

Bust

No matter your bra size, your breasts need support. Gravity is the enemy. Consider a suit that has appropriate support available for your needs. This is especially true for those with bigger busts.

Highlight your assets

Do you have a body part you’re particularly proud of? Show it off with the right swimsuit. Make a list of the best assets you possess and keep them in mind when shopping. Long legs pop out when paired with high-waisted garments, and plunging necklines can emphasise your bustline.

Material

Make sure what you buy is made from good quality cloth. You wouldn’t like having a wardrobe malfunction in public. If you’re planning to move a lot, something with more elastane (what gives suits their stretch) would be good. If you are rough on your swimwear, investing on thicker suits could be worth it.

Price and quality

You wear swimsuits on only a few occasions. They’re not an every day or every week use unless you work as a lifeguard or something similar. Making sure that the price justifies the quality is important. A 200 dollar swimwear online is not necessarily high quality unless it’s made from materials worth that price.

Colour and Design

Usage, ultraviolet rays, and chemicals like chlorine (if you go to a pool) can affect your swimsuit. Colours and patterns might fade over time. Your suit could permanently stretch. Any embellishment like beads or sequins can get detached. Your suit’s look could change when wet too. Beware of white; it tends to turn transparent when wet. Imagine what your suit will look like after two to three uses, and adjust your preferences.

Sun

You might want to do a bit of tanning during the summer. For that purpose, get a swimsuit that exposes all the parts you want tanned. Strappy swimsuits can also create interesting tan lines.

The Bottomline

Whether you get your swimwear online, or in physical shops, find one that emphasises functionality and aesthetics. Don’t buy suits that only focus on one aspect. Too much focus on function, and it’ll look drab. Too much on aesthetics and you risk getting a substandard product.
